July 19th & 20th 2003, OSCA Mid Summer Shootout at Toronto Motorsports Park.
  • Event Winner!
The second event of the 2003 OSCA points battle was on. The thought going into this race is that if we are going to have a shot at the overall championship at all, we would have to do well at this event as there will be only two more left after this one.

Saturday morning was a glorious day, bright sunshine, warm tempratures and the excitement of the event was very evident with 15 race cars qualifying in our index class. As a matter of fact, this race would see more race cars in the 4 index classes combined than most of the non-indexed heads up classes! Looks like this OSCA thing is catching on.

Mental errors cost me in the previous race and the main objective in this race would be to concentrate on what I need to do, rather than what or who would be in the lane beside me. Sounds easy enough, but sometimes it's not.

Things got off to an incredible start right away as the first qualifying run saw me click off a 12.013 to take the #1 spot. I truly believed that mark would hold up until Gary Quill took it away from me with a 12.010 in the second qualifying run. I ran an 11.966 in my second qualifier.

First round eliminations were run on Saturday afternoon and because I got bumped from the number 1 qualifying spot by Gary, he got the buy run and I had to race an opponent!

For my first round, I was to race an 88 mustang and won the race by a comfortable margin, I had plenty of time to slow down and take the win light with a 12.577 @ 85.34 to a 13.367 @ 107.48.
Second round would also come on Saturday and we took that one over Shelby Miller and her cool 502 SS Monte Carlo. I went 12.059 to Shelby's 12.119.

Third round on Sunday morning would see an incredibly close drag race. I was to race the 1970 Nova of Brad Redford and I bet the fans freaked out when both scoreboards lit up with identical 12.00 second passes for each car!!! I actually ran 12.006 to Brads 12.007!! what a &*^%^$##@ drag race!!!

That win put me into the final round against Howard Cox and his 1985 Mustang, a really clean car. Howard and I staged the cars and when it was go time, we both punched it and held on for the ride... what a ride!! how about a 12.036 to Howard's 11.961 breakout which gave me the win.

Next race - August 2003.
