July 13th, 14th & 15th 2003, Canadian Fastest Streetcar Shootout at Grand Bend Motorplex.
After many months of waiting eagerly for this shootout, the first one put on by our freinds at RPM Classifieds, the weekend was upon us. The anticipation for this event was quite high as it promised to be a fun filled, action packed weekend with race cars from all over the north east.

My buddy Greg Bragg was to help me out all weekend and we got rolling on Friday, just before noon.

We arrived at the track about three hours later and got our racer pre-registration package and found out where we would be pitted.

Friday night would be pretty lousy with the off and on rain showers and 40 - 50 kph winds, the track staff made the safe decision of allowing only 1/8 mile runs for time trials.

Saturday morning brought more showers and it looked very dim. The showers finally left us alone around 2 or so in the afternoon and we got to run our two qualifiers for Sundays eliminations.

We ended up qualified number 5 out of a field of 16 cars with a 12.15 which was ok, but it could have been better.

Sunday came and the sky's were clear, the weather was beautiful, the sun was out and everyone was ready to go. My first round opponent was going to be a 12 second VW bug! We lined up and the race was on....I had the early lead and slowed down to an easy victory, the bug may have had some trouble because he ran a 13.67.

Second round was just around the corner and my opponent this time would be a clean cutlass from Michigan that qualified number 1 with a 12.001 pass!! I would have my work cut out for me. We staged the cars and I left first gaining a quick advantage. I was in front of him the entire length of the track, until I made a mental error - I lifted way too early out of fear of running under. I did it again!!! My mental game needs work. I won't bore you with the numbers, only the reality that I lost the race due to a mistake. I think I need some more practice.
